In 2011 after months of research into the different wolfy breeds we brought home our first wolf-like dog Toki, a six month old Northern Inuit x Utonagan bitch. She was everything we could have hoped for in a dog, loving, energetic, so very smart, gentle and friendly. It was love at first sight and she really burrowed her way into our hearts, she was a special dog. Once she had grown up a little we though long and hard about breeding her. We had always had rescue dogs and agreed we didn't want to become part of the increasing problem of poorly bred, homeless dogs, if we were going to do it we'd do it properly. So we set about getting her through all her health tests, hips, elbows, eyes and DM tests were all done and she passed them all wonderfully. We had no doubt of her wonderful temperament, she lives with and got on wonderfully with our cats and rabbits as well as our other rescue dogs and she was a registered PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog as well. We also became part of W.O.L.F. (World Of Lupines Foundation) and became one of their ethically assured breeders. W.O.L.F. is an organisation of like minded breeders that is dedicated to the responsible and ethical breeding of lupine dogs. We have a mutual goal of creating a wolfdog breed that has a set standard look and well rounded temperament that will allow them to be happy family pets as well as being able to turn their paw at many canine sports. We are working towards our future litters being registered as Lupines. There is a link to the website for more information on W.O.L.F on our links and contacts page. Unfortunately the year we had planned for the wonderful first litter to happen I had to have knee surgery and so it had to be postponed until the following year which meant Toki was quite old for a maiden litter and we'd have to really be on the ball because if she missed there wouldn't be a second chance. Due the tiny gene-pool of the Northern Inuits and Utonagans we had chosen to out cross to avoid the serious health issues that often arise from breeding dogs that are too closely related as all IN's and Ute's came from the same foundation dogs. Health and temperament are the most important things when it comes to breeding a well rounded dog, as this first litter was to the start of our line we spent a long time finding a stud that ticked all the health test and temperament boxes and was a mix of the founding breeds used to create the Northern Inuits and Utonagans. Things like colours could be worked on in future litters once we have a healthy, well balanced base line. Thankfully in May 2015 Toki conceived to a specially selected stud and our first litter was born on the 5th of July 2015. That was just they start of things for us. Zeus, Tokis son from that 1st litter stayed with us to help progress our line and is growing into a fantastic young Dog. We also added Bella to our family in 2016 a wonderful Lupine girl from Miyax Lupine dogs and in 2018 we welcomed Milly to the family all the way from Germany. |
